Previously, Jennifer Lawrence mentioned that she grew up ‘a little Republican’ and now, she returned to her online platform to clarify what that means for anyone who was confused and wondering! The actress made headlines over that statement last week so it looks like she felt like she needed to address it.
As a result, Jennifer Lawrence took to Twitter earlier today to write that she ‘would like to clarify my voting record. I grew up in a republican family and voted for John McCain in 2008, but through Obama’s presidency, and growing up to realize I was voting against my own rights, I am proud to say I am a Democrat.’
That’s right! The Hunger Games actress made her allegiance to the Liberal party very clear for everyone who might have been worried.
This clarification comes after her Absolutely Not podcast interview when she chatted with host Heather McMahan about a number of topics, including voting, of course!
While she also talked about how she’s been dealing with the pandemic and social distancing regulations, as well as her marriage with Cooke Maroney, quite a lot of people focused more on the actress’ political remarks.
At the time, Jennifer mentioned that she was raised to ‘see the fiscal benefits of some of the Republican policies,’ and fans were confused about what she meant.
This is also part of the reason why her first ever vote went to former Arizona Senator John McCain.
But, as she made very clear, throughout the years, the star realized some of the policies of the Republican party did not fall in line with her own social values.
‘When Donald Trump got elected, that just changed everything. This is an impeached president who’s broken many laws and refused to condemn white supremacy and it feels there’s been a line drawn in the sand,’ Jennifer mentioned, stressing that it was the moment that cemented her conviction that the Democratic party was the one better for all people.
