Viitorul U19 reaches cup semifinals with a 3-2 win at U Cluj
FC Viitorul U19 advanced to the Romanian Cup semifinals after recovering from a half-time deficit to beat Universitatea Cluj U19 3-2. Vasile Mănăilă’s side had previously won 2-1 away to CSU Craiova U19 in the round of 16.
Norbert Janos put the hosts ahead in the 11th minute. Viitorul replied through Doru Dumitrescu in the 57th, Andrei Ciobanu from the penalty spot in the 78th and Mircea Manole in the 89th. Sebastian Salcău’s stoppage-time goal brought Cluj within one, but Viitorul held on.
The club’s account also reported that visiting players were spat at and struck by supporters while returning to the dressing rooms. Viitorul said its delegation sought police assistance before leaving the ground. Those allegations formed part of the club’s statement following the match.
The semifinal schedule paired Viitorul with ACS Poli Timișoara U19 on May 19.
