Hagi challenges Romanian football leadership in an open letter

Gheorghe Hagi published an open letter responding to Andrei Vochin after Romania’s exit from Euro 2016. The former national-team coach disputed the way his brief spell in charge in 2001 had been used in a discussion about young coaches and experience.

Hagi argued that the standards applied to his appointment should also be applied to the people running Romanian football. He criticized the national team’s tournament performance and questioned progress at youth level.

The letter presented Hagi’s position in a public dispute over leadership and results. His criticisms centered on leadership, selection and the results of Romania’s senior and youth teams.
