Hagi raises youth-selection concerns in letter to Romanian football media
Gheorghe Hagi addressed the media and Romanian football community in an open letter about youth national-team selection. He argued that the progress of players developed through the academy deserved greater recognition.
The September 21 statement discussed Alexandru Mitriță, Mihai Bălașa, Cristian Manea and Florin Tănase before turning to Ianis Hagi. Hagi cited Ianis’s club appearances, youth captaincy and move to Italy as reasons to consider him at a higher age-group level.
Hagi also pointed to the academy’s facilities and youth results to explain his position. He described the letter as a response to the criticism directed at his work and the academy.
