The one person producers should never anger. Chris Harrison is upset he is being temporarily replaced by JoJo Fletcher and forced to quarantine before returning to host season 16 of The Bachelorette amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“Chris was not happy they were going to make him quarantine in Palm Springs for two weeks without working,” a source exclusively reveals to Us Weekly. “He insisted he simply dropped his son off in his dorm room and left, social distancing the entire time.”
However, the 49-year-old host’s self-isolation may be shorter than expected. The insider adds that they’re discussing different options and will reconvene after his COVID-19 test results.
Meanwhile, Fletcher, 29, will step in to take over Harrison’s duties. “They are still using JoJo to fill in,” the source tells Us. “She had been self-quarantining at her home.”
Us broke the news on Thursday, August 13, that the former Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? host was not allowed to return to the set at the La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, California, after he left to take his son, Joshua, to college in Texas.
“The moment he got back, Chris was told he could not set foot back on the set until he went through another 14-day quarantine,” a source revealed. “The show’s contestants and crew all had to quarantine on the property for 14 days prior to the cameras rolling. But it didn’t dawn on Chris he’d have to do it all over again if he simply left to take his kid to college.”
In turn, Fletcher was called upon to take over for the two-week period. “He will be back in time for the last few shows,” the insider added.
The host swap is just the latest shakeup to plague season 16, which was initially postponed for months during the global health crisis. Us confirmed earlier this month that Clare Crawley stepped away from the lead role after falling in love with one of the contestants early in production, which began in July. Tayshia Adams is set to replace the hairdresser, 39, as the Bachelorette.
